I aim to create an inpatient clinic for low-income children with cancer in Lambayeque, a small province in Northern Peru, which is the second province with the most cases of childhood cancer besides Lima, the capital of the country.
The demand for care in different hospitals is high, as there are no medical resources, such as doctors, infrastructure, or equipment. Even if families can travel miles away to reach Lima, they would not be able to afford treatment, nor would they have a place to stay, since cancer therapy usually lasts 3-6 months.
Diversion, an inpatient clinic for low-income children with cancer ages 0-12, encourages children to reconnect with their playful child, which not only fosters emotional resilience and well-being but also provides a vital source of comfort and distraction during challenging times.
Drawing inspiration from kids’ building blocks, this space once thoughtfully pieced together and changing its shape, offers a pathway to creativity and innovation.
