Blueprint: A Comprehensive Care Center for Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes

Blueprint is a comprehensive care center dedicated to supporting adolescents aged 13 to 20 living with Type 1 Diabetes. Located in Burlington, Vermont, a state with one of the highest adolescent T1D rates in the country, this project addresses a critical need for accessible, specialized care in a community-centered environment. The center combines medical treatment, education, emotional support, and wellness programming under one roof, creating a holistic space that empowers young individuals in managing their condition.

Inspired by the human fingerprint, the design centers around the concept drivers of imprint, ingrained knowledge, and permanence, symbolizing the lifelong impact of a T1D diagnosis and the personalized care journey each patient experiences. The architecture balances function and warmth, with recovery-focused amenities and inclusive, youth-oriented design elements.

Blueprint goes beyond traditional healthcare by integrating spaces for peer connection, family involvement, physical activity, and creative learning. It also serves as a regional resource for rural families in New England who face limited access to diabetes services. By weaving together medical precision and emotional resilience, the center creates an environment where young patients can feel seen, supported, and confident in navigating their future.
